Ugh.Į: To stay on the specific topic, since I never actually beat SS2 (got pretty damn far back in the day, but never got a chance to finish it), I had installed the game a few weeks back in order to play it and hopefully beat it this time. There have been way too many games that do the sole survivor routine over the last ten years. Second, when SS2 did it, it hadn't been done to death. You do actually see normal npc's during the character creation process, which is a nice touch. First off, the technology was mcuh weaker then, and it was just easier to only deal with enemies for the most part. And personally I'm sick of games that try to do the "you're the only sane/living human left surrounded by monsters/aliens/crazies!" It worked in SS2 for a couple reasons in my mind. Still, Human Rev seems like the closest thing to that style of gameplay that we've had since then. I don't really like where Ken Levine has gone with Bioshock, although I haven't played Infinite, and people seem to love it, so maybe it would work out. I think a remake would be the best in the hands of the people who made Human Revolution.
